NFL declares war on bags ... it's about time
By Ross Jones and Sid Saraf Sorry, people … this one’s gonna sting. Leave your wife’s purse, your backpack and manpurses in the car, because the NFL stadium you’ll walk into on Sundays this fall won’t allow them. In another effort to promote safety in NFL stadiums, the league announced a change to its bag policy. To which we say, ‘It’s about damn time.” No more unbelievably long lines at the gate while the security guard goes through herds of people’s carry-on garbage. What a relief. The last thing a fan wants to endure after hours of tailgating is to stand behind Eunice, Betsy and Uncle Ron while they have their merchandise inspected. Outta the way, please! In case you haven’t noticed, we’re here to watch a game. And after all that tailgating, we gotta make a pit stop. "Our fans deserve to be in a safe and secure environment," NFL vice president and chief security officer Jeffrey Miller said in a statement. "Public safety is our top priority. This will make the job of checking items much more efficient and effective. We will be able to deliver a better and quicker experience at the gates and also provide a safer environment. We appreciate our fans' cooperation." Well done, Mr. Miller! Well done! Remember why you’re at the game in the first place: It’s not a fashion show. We get it, that darling Coach bag really matches your shoes and pink Tom Brady jersey. And that Jansport backpack you’ve been rocking since high school, dude, that thing needs to go. We’re here to watch grown men play a game we love while we endure the elements. Now, before you freak out and start writing letters, realize this: The NFL isn’t even banning ALL bags. You can bring in clear bags that don’t exceed 12” x 6” x 12 “ in size. Does anyone own a bag that meets that description? Please email us at our tip line at FNGtips@fox.com Let’s go through a list of items that are now outlawed at NFL stadiums:
Get it? Got it? Good! Actually, now that we think about it, it’s pretty great to have the purse to store my keys, phone and other “goods.” Questions? Comments? Send them to lacesoutmail@gmail.com and we might respond in our weekly mailbag!
