KANPUR, India (AP) India declared its second innings at 377-5 in 107.2 overs on day four of the first test against New Zealand in Kanpur, setting the tourists a target of 434.

Ravindra Jadeja (50) and Rohit Sharma (68) finished unbeaten when the declaration came just before tea.

Sharma scored his fifth test fifty that included eight fours, a solid contribution that was necessary to justify his selection in the India team. Jadeja was more aggressive, facing only 58 balls for his second test fifty, including three sixes and two fours.

For New Zealand, Ish Sodhi (2-99) and Mark Craig (1-80) were the wicket takers in addition to Santner. A minimum 37 overs are to be bowled in the final session of play.
