CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) Kane Williamson approached his 14th test century and his ninth in the last 12 months as New Zealand fought desperately to save the second cricket test against Australia before lunch on the fourth day.
Williamson and Corey Anderson survived a searching test from the Australian bowling in the opening session on Tuesday to steer New Zealand to 197-4 in its second innings at lunch after it resumed at 121-4, trailing Australia by 14 runs.
By the interval, Williamson was 89, Anderson was 35, and New Zealand held a slender 62-run lead with six second-innings wickets still intact.
New Zealand lost four wickets before stumps on day three as it tried to erase the 135-run lead Australia held after reaching 505 in reply to the home side's first innings of 370.
