New York dilemma: Derek Jeter's final home game or Giants football?
As Derek Jeter plays his final home game in Yankee Stadium Thursday night, the New York Giants will be in Washington to face their NFC East rivals.
The Orioles-Yankees game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. Kickoff for Giants-Redskins is set for 8:25. How will fans of both New York teams handle the overlap? On one hand, the Yankees captain participates in his final home game after 20 years in pinstripes. On the other hand, the Giants are involved in a meaningful regular-season NFL game.
This might have been a much more interesting question 10 years ago, or maybe even five years ago, but with today's technology (tablets, DVR, slingbox, etc.), fans now have many options (besides going to a bar), which makes this dilemma a lot less stressful.
Here's a sampling, via my Twitter followers, of how some New Yorkers plan to wade through both big sporting events Thursday night.
@JimmyTraina @TheBuzzerOnFOX cell phone off, DVR Giants, Yankees live

@JimmyTraina Fan of both. Keep forgetting the Giants are even playing. Will only put them on in Yankees' commercials.

@JimmyTraina @TheBuzzerOnFOX Watch Jeter bat, then switch over to the Giants, watch until Eli throws a pick, switch back, and so on.

@JimmyTraina @TheBuzzerOnFOX NYGiants all the way. @YESNetwork will replay this game at least a dozen times over the next week anyways.

@JimmyTraina @TheBuzzerOnFOX NYY on TV (primary), leaving NYG on Slingbox on mute, checking every now and then.

@JimmyTraina @TheBuzzerOnFOX Stay on NYG, monitor NYY via At-Bat app. Flip to NYY when Jeter involved and stay with it during late innings.

@JimmyTraina @TheBuzzerOnFOX Watch Yanks pre-game, flip back for Jeter at-bats but mostly watch Giants. One outcome matters more.

@JimmyTraina @TheBuzzerOnFOX hope for hour rain delay to start Yankees game and Eli and co can blow out Washington no-names

@JimmyTraina I'm a Yankees and a Redskins fan and in Brazil they'll only air NFL live, so I'll watch Yankees game with MLB TV in my laptop.

@JimmyTraina @TheBuzzerOnFOX Watching the Giants live. The Yankees have broken me with Jeter and for-sale dirt.

@JimmyTraina @TheBuzzerOnFOX if there was ever a night to go out to a bar and be brutally hungover at work tomorrow, it's tonight
— Ryan Williams (@ryanwilliams84) September 25, 2014
@JimmyTraina Giants live, Yankees on DVR due to the game itself being meaningless...need the important game action to be live.
