The Texas Rangers have added another title to general manager Jon Daniels' business card.
The club promoted Daniels to president of baseball operations/general manager Friday. Daniels will continue with his GM duties and still report to team president Nolan Ryan. Texas also promoted Rick George to president of business operations. He had been the club's chief operating officer.
"On a day to day basis there won't be any dramatic difference in the role," Daniels said. More than anything it's the recognition of the work of not just myself or Rick but our groups. As far as day to day responsibilities I'm still the general manager. That part hasn't changed."
Daniels is entering his eighth season as the team's general manager. Under his guidance, the Rangers went to the World Series two times and have been to the postseason the last three seasons, a first for the club. George has been with the organization since October of 2010.
The organization made the promotions Friday while wrapping up the team's ownership meetings in Scottsdale, Ariz.
One thing the group wants Daniels to focus on in his new role is keeping the organization's top personnel from leaving for other opportunities.
"I am proud of what we have accomplished as an organization over the last several years," Ryan said in a statement. "That has been due in large part to the efforts of a lot of talented and dedicated individuals who work in all areas of the ball club. I want to congratulate Jon and Rick on their promotions as the organization moves forward with a tremendous group of employees to achieve an even greater level of excellence in 2013 and in the years to come."
