New Orleans showdown features live stream of Tallahassee Lincoln, telecast of Tampa Plant
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — FOX Sports Florida announced today that they will be featuring the Allstate Sugar Bowl Prep Classic on Sun Sports FOXSportsFlorida.com via Prep Zone, presented by Checkers. Prep Zone is a revolutionary way of displaying high school football merging television, web and social media all in one place.
On Friday, Sept. 7, Prep Zone travels to the New Orleans for the Allstate Sugar Bowl Prep Classic, featuring two huge Florida vs. Louisiana matchups at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The opener, which will stream live on FOXSportsFlorida.com at 7:00 pm ET, pits Tallahassee Lincoln against Covington St. Paul, two respective powers that are eyeing state title runs in 2012.
The visiting Trojans will feature an inexperienced, but promising sophomore quarterback in Kendall Randolph. He’ll get some help from a pair of explosive wide outs in 6-foot Reggie Davis, a Georgia commit, and 6-foot-4 Taj Williams (Alabama, South Carolina, South Florida offers).
Lincoln also features a massively talented offensive front, which includes a pair of projected Division I linemen in 6-foot-4, 290-pound tackle Dakota Deyent and 6-foot-3, 260-pound Andrew Laubach. Defensively, Lincoln is led by linebacker James Hearns, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound wrecking ball who is committed to Florida.
Host Covington St. Paul also has a first-time starter at quarterback in senior Collin D’Angelo. The Wolves’ strength is a big-time offensive line, led by senior tackles Christian Voekel and Stephen Leblanc. Defensively, St. Paul possesses a pair of standout performers in senior safety Jay Washington and senior linebacker Ed Duplessis.
The nightcap is a showdown between two national powerhouses―Tampa Plant (No. 10 in USA Today Super 25) and River Ridge John Curtis (No. 7, Super 25), which will air live on Sun Sports immediately following the Tampa Bay Rays game. The defending Class 8A state champs from Florida will showcase their ‘Air Attack’ offense, triggered by 6-foot-1 senior quarterback Aaron Banks.
Senior running back Wesley Bullock and senior wide receiver Dereck Mann provide two big-time targets, while Florida State commit Ricky Klepel, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound tackle, supplies the protection. Defensively, the Panthers replace seven starters from last season, but return senior safety Paris Bostick, a Georgia commit, and senior linebacker Mitchell Wright, a South Florida commit.
The 24-time state champion John Curtis returns 16 starters from last year’s Class 2A title-winning squad, including a pair of speedy senior running backs in Sherman Badie (Memphis, Minnesota, Tulane offers) and Tevin Horton, who make the Patriots’ split back, veer offense a nightmare for opposing defenses. On defense, John Curtis returns seven starters, highlighted by senior cover cornerback Richard Allen, a Tulane commit, and senior linebacker Duke Riley (Arizona, Mississippi, TCU offers).
During the game, viewers will have access to a library of instant video highlights powered via Snappy TV technology that will allow fans to share clips with family and friends via Facebook and Twitter within seconds.
