New Mexico onslaught buries Sun Devils
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico erupted for 14 runs in innings three through six to overwhelm 21st-ranked Arizona State, 15-6, on Monday night at Isotopes Park.
ASU (19-13) scored the game's first two runs, but the Lobos (15-16) got one back in the second inning on a wild pitch, then hammered away for four runs in the third, four in the fourth, four in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Billy Young (0-2), the second of five ASU pitchers, took the loss, giving up six runs (three earned) in 2 2/3 innings.
Max Rossiter led the Sun Devils at the plate with three hits.
Left-hander Rudy Jaramillo (3-2) earned the win for the Lobos, giving up four runs in 7 1/3 innings.
The two-game series concludes Tuesday at 6 p.m. (Arizona time). CBS College Sports will televise the game live.
