New England signs Dutch forward Geoffrey Castillion
It turns out the New England Revolution's roster retooling didn't end with Jermaine Jones.
The Revolution on Monday announced the signing of former Ajax striker Geoffrey Castillion on a free transfer. The 23-year-old represented the Netherlands at the U-17, U-18 and U-19 levels.
"Geoffrey is a big, strong target forward with several years of experience in the Dutch first division," Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a news release. "He will add a different dynamic to our attack and also give us more options up front."
A product of Ajax's youth academy, Castillion saw his only first-team appearance for the club come in 2011. He split the 2013-14 campaign between Ajax's reserves and a loan stint with Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen.
He'll compete for minutes up top in Revolution coach Jay Heaps' 4-1-4-1 formation with Charlie Davies, Patrick Mullins and Dimitry Imbongo. At 9-12-3, New England is one point out of the final Eastern Conference playoff slot.
