New Britain Rock Cats bring Christmas cheer to crowd
Minor league teams often utilize promotions to draw fans to the ballpark. The New Britain Rock Cats made sure it was a holly, jolly night at the park on Monday.
The Rock Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, had "Christmas in July" for Monday's game against Portland. It included a giveaway of winter scarves to the first 1,000 fans.
And of course, there was plenty of Christmas cheer on the field as the Rock Cats players wore Santa uniforms -- red jerseys with a white collar and a black belt and giant yellow belt buckle. The backs of the jerseys read "Ho Ho Ho."
Unfortunately, New Britain couldn't send its fans home with the gift of a win. Instead, Rock Cats fans left with a lump of coal after their team lost 5-4 to Portland.
