KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Coincidentally, Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn's locker is right next to cornerback Javier Arenas' locker.
Coincidentally, that's a Notre Dame alum (Quinn) right next to an Alabama alum (Arenas).
So naturally, ever since it was decided that Notre Dame would be playing Alabama in the Jan. 7 BCS title game, there's been a little, ahem, friendly discussion going on between the two in that corner of the Chiefs' locker room.
“But most of the trash talking has been coming from his end,” Quinn told FOXSportsKansasCity.com. “It's like poking a bee hive. I'm trying to take the high road.”
But the “conversation” started up again after Thursday's practice.
“The fact still remains,” Arenas said, looking toward Quinn. “that this is like a regular-season game for us. No big deal. The past four seasons, we've been there (the title game) three times. We're the champs.
“There's not a team in all of college football, let alone Notre Dame, that can knock us off. We're too disciplined. We're too well-coached.”
With that, Quinn simply looked away, grinned, and rolled his eyes. But Arenas was hardly finished.
“We got too many physical players, especially for a little team like (Notre Dame),” Arenas continued, looking directly at Quinn. “You all don't know what's about to hit you.
“It's going to start out close. But once you see 'Bama start putting those four fingers up in the fourth quarter, they mean business. That's when we pull away from you all.”
Quinn said he wasn't about to make a public prediction.
“I think we're going to be just fine,” Quinn said.
Arenas, though, was ready to make the call.
“It'll be a dogfight,” Arenas said. “But I say Alabama, 21-14.”
