NBA Power Rankings Week Of 02/09/2010
Rk Team Last Wk Rise/Fall High/Low Comment
1 Cavaliers 1 - 1/9 (41-11) Without Mo and Delonte, LeBron's become Cleveland's only real playmaker, averaging 10.2 assists in eight games. Yet he's still found time to take over the NBA scoring lead. Oh, and the Cavs still haven't lost since that Sundiata Gaines miracle trey in Utah three weeks ago.

2 Lakers 2 - 1/6 (40-13) Kobe missing two games might be the best thing to happen to the Lakers. His supporting cast proved it could do the job without him against the Blazers and Spurs, so they should play with more confidence when he returns.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
3 Jazz 4 (+1) 3/20 (31-18) Even the Cavs might not be playing as well as Utah right now. Its offense is extremely efficient, both in the halfcourt and transition, the defense has been sharp and the Jazz have won each of their last eight games by at least seven points.

4 Nuggets 3 (-1) 3/11 (34-17) Chauncey's scoring binge in L.A. was the high point of a superb season for Billups and the Nuggets, but this is a banged-up team that needs the All-Star break to get healthy.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
5 Magic 5 - 2/10 (35-17) Has Vince Carter snapped out of his slump? After averaging 8.7 points on 28-percent shooting in January, he's averaged 26.5 points on 52.8-percent shooting in four February games, including Monday's 48-point eruption vs. the Hornets.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
6 Hawks 6 - 2/12 (32-17) As long as the Hawks are close at the end of a game, Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford give them a great chance to win.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
7 Thunder 9 (+2) 7/20 (29-21) Durant deserves much of the credit for OKC's emergence, but Scott Brooks has done a remarkable job getting a young team to play defense and compete on the road.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
8 Suns 12 (+4) 1/12 (31-21) After losing 12 of 13 road games, the Suns swept a four-game trip to get back in the thick of the West race. Stoudemire probably ensured he won??t get traded by averaging 28.3 points and 12.3 rebounds in the wins.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
9 Celtics 11 (+2) 1/11 (32-17) The Celtics can't seem to hold a lead against good teams. Is that the sign of an old team? A thin bench? Or a team with less confidence and camaraderie than it had two years ago?
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
10 Mavericks 10 - 4/10 (32-19) "We suck right now," says Mark Cuban. Hard to argue when you haven't beaten anyone but the Warriors in two weeks. Even so, the Mavs still lead the NBA's toughest division.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
11 Raptors 14 (+3) 11/20 (28-23) With seven wins in eight games, the Raptors have seized hold of the No. 5 spot in the East. Moving up won't be easy, though, unless the Celtics, Magic or Hawks collapse.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
12 Spurs 15 (+3) 5/15 (29-21) On an old team wracked by wear and tear, George Hill has given the Spurs some fresh legs. He's led the team in scoring three of the past five games.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
13 Trail Blazers 13 - 7/13 (30-23) After a slow start this season, LaMarcus Aldridge has elevated his game, averaging 21.3 points over the past dozen games. That's helped Portland survive all its injuries and stay in the playoff picture.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
14 Bulls 7 (-7) 7/24 (24-25) How quickly things turn in the NBA. After their superb road trip, the Bulls promptly lost their next three, suspended Tyrus Thomas for lashing out at the coaches and sidelined Joakim Noah with plantar fasciitis.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
15 Grizzlies 8 (-7) 7/27 (26-24) I've been on the Memphis bandwagon for a few weeks, but it might be time to jump onto a new one. Cleveland's is full. Any room on Utah's?
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
16 Rockets 17 (+1) 7/17 (27-23) The size-challenged Rockets have stumbled lately, but Joey Dorsey looks like he might be able to help. In Houston's last two games, the former Memphis Tiger enforcer grabbed 19 rebounds in 37 minutes.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
17 Bucks 19 (+2) 10/27 (23-26) With five wins in six games and the Heat in a freefall, Milwaukee's right back in the playoff hunt. And it's been a true team effort, not just Bogut and Jennings.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
18 Bobcats 16 (-2) 15/27 (24-25) Like the Bulls, the 'Cats were January sensations who have flopped so far in February (0-3 this month).
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
19 Hornets 18 (-1) 8/26 (27-25) By the time New Orleans fans sober up after the Saints' championship, the Hornets' season will be over.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
20 76ers 22 (+2) 14/28 (19-31) As usual, the Sixers -- winners of four straight -- are playing much better in the second half of the season. Problem is, they dug way too big a hole in the first half this time.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
21 Heat 20 (-1) 6/21 (24-27) You can look in Dwyane Wade's face and tell he doesn't want to stay in Miami unless another superstar joins him. It's going to be a make-or-break offseason for the Heat.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
22 Pacers 23 (+1) 18/28 (18-33) T.J. Ford has emerged from the doghouse to have a few decent games, but Indy still has one of the worst point-guard situations in the league.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
23 Knicks 21 (-2) 19/30 (19-31) We already knew the Knicks brought out the best in LeBron, but apparently they do the same to Ersan Ilyasova.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
24 Clippers 24 - 16/24 (21-29) Finally, a reason to watch the All-Star Game. Chris Kaman!!!
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
25 Timberwolves 27 (+2) 25/29 (13-38) The Wolves say they won't trade any of their core players, meaning they think Jefferson, Love and Flynn can eventually win together. Maybe they're right. Minnesota's won four straight, including a stunner in Dallas.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
26 Wizards 26 - 13/29 (17-32) Caron Butler's had a ugly season, shooting 42.2 percent, but his game-winner in Orlando was a beauty.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
27 Pistons 28 (+1) 14/29 (17-32) In a lost season for the Pistons, Jonas Jerebko's been a nice find. The first Swedish player in the NBA and the third of three small forwards that Detroit drafted (along with Austin Daye and DaJuan Summers), he's become a starter and fan favorite.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
28 Kings 25 (-3) 17/30 (16-34) Ever since Kevin Martin returned, Omri Casspi has all but disappeared. Same with Sacramento's defense.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
29 Warriors 29 - 21/29 (13-37) With Corey Maggette out (broken finger) and Monta Ellis hurting his knee Monday, the Warriors may need Stephen Curry to start shooting 40 times a game like he did at Davidson.
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy
30 Nets 30 - 28/30 (4-46) Why would Del Harris think he'd be promoted to head coach? Did he think he's done that great a job as an assistant?
