NAU women fall to San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Northern Arizona women's basketball team, playing its first road game since Nov. 15, dropped a 78-63 decision to San Diego at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Saturday.
Junior Caty Huntington led the Lumberjacks with 15 points in the loss.
NAU (4-6) fell for the third consecutive time on the road this season, while San Diego improved to 7-3 on the year. The Toreros shot 55.3 percent from the field and had only two attempts from three-point range. San Diego got it done at the line, converting 26 of 31 free-throw attempts.
San Diego started the game on an 11-0 run, and the Lumberjacks played catch up for the remainder of the game. The women were down by as many as 13 points in the first half but cut the lead to single digits several times, entering the break behind 39-29.
In the second half, NAU cut San Diego's lead to eight two times but could not get any closer.
The Lumberjacks improved their shooting in the second half, hitting 46.7 percent of their shots compared with 42.9 percent in the first half. San Diego shot 55 percent from the field in each half.
Huntington finished 5 for 10 from the field and 4 for 5 from the free-throw line. She also had three rebounds and two steals in 26 minutes.
San Diego's Dominique Conners led all players with 23 points.
