NAU volleyball sweeps Weber State on road

OGDEN, Utah -- NAU outhit Weber State .375 to .019 and totaled 11 blocks in a dominant 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-12) sweep of the Wildcats on Saturday.

Senior Kelli Dallmann and freshman Janae Vander Ploeg each had double-digit kills and sophomore Sydney Kemper hit .667 with six kills and seven blocks as NAU improved to 9-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big Sky. Weber State dropped to 6-7 overall and 0-2 in conference.
 
The Lumberjacks hit .435 in the second set and .500 in the third set while committing only two errors in each set and just eight for the match. Freshman middle blocker Peyton Bock hit .857 with six kills and three blocks and sophomore Kalee Kirby posted 35 assists and four blocks. NAU forced 27 attack errors and did not allow a single Weber State player to total double-digit kills or digs.
 
The first set would be the most competitive, as NAU held a slim 12-10 lead through the early stages. A 7-0 run stretched the advantage to 19-10, and the Wildcats would get no closer than five points for the remainder of the set as the Lumberjacks took a 1-0 lead.
 
NAU took an 8-3 lead in the second set and then went on an 8-0 run to take a commanding 16-3 advantage. The Lumberjacks outhit the Wildcats .435 to -.100 in the set, with Weber State committing nine attack errors to just six kills as NAU cruised to a 2-0 lead.
 
The third set started a bit closer, with NAU taking a 6-5 lead before eventually opening up a 17-9 cushion. Dallmann and Vander Ploeg each had four kills as NAU totaled 14 kills and just two errors in the set and cruised to a 25-12 match-clinching score.
 
After player their first 11 matches of the season on the road, the Lumberjacks will host Sacramento State next Thursday at Rolle Activity Center.
