NAU posts 85 percent graduation success rate, best in Ariz.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Northern Arizona Athletics Department posted a school-best 85 percent Graduation Success Rate, as released by the NCAA national office today. It was the highest of the three state universities, and tied for the best in the Big Sky Conference.
Posting a 100 percent graduation success rate for NAU were the women's cross country and track and field, women's golf and women's tennis. Both the women's basketball and women's soccer teams earned a 90 percent or better GSR.
Men's basketball improved its GSR by 11 percent to move up to 80, while football remained at 75 for the second straight year.
In 2013-14, NAU won its second straight Big Sky President's Cup Award, while earning 117 All-Big Sky Academic honors. In addition, women's tennis and swimming & diving earned the APR Public Recognition Award. NAU finished with a 3.12 overall cumulative grade point average, while 49 student-athletes graduated during the 2013-14 academic year.
The NCAA Graduation Success Rate measures athletes' graduation success rates at Division I institutions, including transfer student-athletes. The GSR also allows institutions to subtract student-athletes who leave their institutions prior to graduation, as long as they would have been academically eligible to compete had they remained.
The rate was developed in response to college and university presidents who wanted graduation data that more accurately reflect the mobility among college students.
