PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Northern Arizona football team was voted No. 22 in latest The Sports Network FCS Top 25 poll, up two spots from last week. NAU is ranked No. 21 in the College Sports Madness Weekly Poll.
The Lumberjacks recorded a 62-23 win over New Mexico Highlands in their home opener on Saturday. The 62 points against New Mexico Highlands was the most points scored at home since a 62-14 win over Portland State in 2010.
Junior quarterback Kyren Poe finished 14-for-23 with 241 yards and three touchdowns. Freshmen running backs Corbin Jountti and Marquice Paige each recorded their first career 100-yard rushing games with 123 and 136 yards, respectively. On the defensive side of the ball, junior cornerback Darius Lewis blocked two punts, while three Lumberjacks finished with six tackles apiece.
NAU will be on the road at South Dakota this weekend to face the Coyotes. Kickoff at the DakotaDome is slated for noon.
