The final major piece of the National Signing Day puzzle is in place.
Eddie Vanderdoes, the nation's No. 2 defensive tackle and No. 9 overall prospect, committed to Notre Dame late Wednesday, the last of the major recruits to make his choice.
Vanderdoes was seriously considering UCLA, as well, and his final decision was hotly debated right up until the announcement.
The strong lineman from Placer High School in Auburn, Calif., was a coveted recruit throughout the process. He was a longtime USC commit before backing off that pledge in December.
Alabama was also in the mix, though most of the Signing Day buzz centered on Notre Dame and UCLA.
Vanderdoes is the second five-star commit for Notre Dame, following linebacker No. 3 overall recruit Jaylon Smith.

Myles Jack, a linebacker from Bellevue (Wash.) High School, has signed with UCLA.
Jack, who is 6 feet 2, 215 pounds, is ranked fourth among outside linebackers nationally by Scout.com and 16th by Rivals.com.

All six of UCLA’s offensive linemen are accounted for.
Alex Redman, a 6-foot-5, 302-pound guard from Los Alamitos High School, has signed his letter of intent. He is the ranked 14th at his position by Scout.com and 17th by Rivals.com.

UCLA was sweating this one a bit, but Christian Morris has signed with the Bruins.
Morris, a 6-foot-6, 293-pound tackle from Memphis (Tenn.) East High School, is ranked 20th nationally by Scout.com and 10th by Rivals.com. He had orally committed to the Bruins, but was reported to be wavering in recent days. Those reports, apparently, were unfounded.

Scott Quessenbery, one of the top centers in the nation, has signed with UCLA.
Quessenbery, who is 6 feet 4, 276 pounds, played at Encinitas La Costa Canyon High School. He is ranked seventh at his position by Scout.com and fifth by Rivals.com. Jake Brendel, UCLA’s current starting center, had a solid year and is only a sophomore.

UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley’s successor is on board with the Bruins.
Asiantii Woulard, ranked as one of the top high school quarterbacks in the nation, signed with UCLA on Wednesday.
Woulard, who is 6 feet 3, 205 pounds, played at Winter Park (Fla.) High School. ESPN ranked him the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the nation.
Hundley will be a sophomore, eligibility-wise, in the fall. Whether he remains through his senior year remains to be seen.
Woulard said he was coming in to compete, but also said, "I can come in and sit behind [Hundley] for a couple years and learn.”

A fence sitter has fallen to UCLA.
Isaac Savaiinaea, a middle linebacker from Honolulu Punahou, signed with the Bruins on Wednesday. It's doubtful Hawaii Coach Norm Chow had a chance at him.
Savaiinaea, who is 6 feet 3, 235 pounds, is ranked third at his position by Scout.com. Notre Dame was in hot pursuit.

UCLA has another receiver for Brett Hundley to throw to.
Thomas Duarte, a receiver from Santa Ana Mater Dei, has signed with the Bruins.
Duarte, who is 6 feet 3, 225 pounds, played tight end at Mater Dei. UCLA does not use a tight end often. But he is a fit at Y-back. The Bruins have a need, after losing senior Joseph Fauria. The concern is such that Nate Iese, a linebacker, is expected to get a look at Y-back this spring.

The third of six offensive lineman who verbally committed to UCLA has signed with the Bruins.
Poasi Moala is a 6-foot-5, 270-pound tackle from Moreno Valley Rancho Verde. He is ranked 11th at his position by Scout.com and 23rdby Rivals.com.
He joins linemen John Lopez (Orange Lutheran) and Kenny Lacy (Phoenix Mountain Pointe), who signed earlier.

UCLA has landed a running back … or is he a wide receiver?
Jalen Ortiz, who played at Peoria (Ariz.) Centennial High School, has signed a letter of intent to play for the Bruins.
Ortiz played running back at Centennial, where he was a two-time 1,000-yard rusher. UCLA Coach Jim Mora called Ortiz a “WR” in a Twitter post.
So which is he? Details to be hashed out. At either spot, Ortiz has 4.55 speed in the 40.

UCLA landed two defensive players, defensive tackle Kenneth Clark and linebacker Jayon Brown.
Clark, who is 6 feet 2 and 275 pounds, played at Rialto Carter High School. He is ranked 20th at his position by Scout.com and 24th by Rivals.com. His family won’t have far to go to see him in training camp. The Bruins will pitch tent at Cal State San Bernardino again this August.
Brown, who is 6-1 and 195, played at Long Beach Poly High School. He needs a little more beef but has speed.

Another brick for UCLA’s offensive line, John Lopez, has signed a letter of intent to play for the Bruins.
Lopez is 6 feet 6 and 315 pounds. He played at Orange Lutheran High School. He is projected as a guard.
Lopez is ranked 12th at his position by Rivals.com and 29th by Scout.com.

More skill position guys are rolling in for UCLA.
Safety Tyler Foreman and wide receiver Darren Andrews have signed letters of intent to play for the Bruins.
Foreman, who played at Encino Crespi, is ranked eighth at his position by Scout.com and 24th by Rivals.com.
Andrews, who played at La Puente Bishop Amat, was not rated highly by scouting websites, but his speed is hard to ignore.

UCLA lost three senior starters from the defensive secondary, and it was not a unit that overly distinguished itself in 2012.
Help is on the way. Defensive backs Tahaan Goodman and Johnny Johnson have signed letter of intents to play for the Bruins.
Goodman, a safety from Rancho Cucamonga High School, is ranked seventh at his position by Scout.com and ninth by Rivals.com.
Johnson, a cornerback from Fresno Central High School, is ranked eighth at his position by Scout.com. UCLA lost senior cornerbacks Aaron Hester and Sheldon Price.

Kylie Fitts, a defensive end USC lost, has signed a letter of intent to play at UCLA.
The Bruins also landed linebacker Deon Hollins Jr. and offensive lineman Kenny Lacy.
Fitts is ranked ninth at his position by Rivals.com and 12thby
Scout.com. He originally committed to USC, but announced Tuesday that he
would go to UCLA.
Hollins, a linebacker from Missouri City (Tex.) Marshall High School,
played on the defensive line, with his hand on the ground, in high
school. But he is projected to be an outside linebacker who can pressure
quarterbacks.
Lacy is a 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive lineman from Phoenix Mountain
Pointe High School. He is one of seven offensive linemen who gave oral
commitments to UCLA.

UCLA’s national signing day started with two players Wednesday morning,
one who will make an immediate impact and another who could figure
prominently.
Sean Covington, a punter from St. Petersburg High
School, and Caleb Benenoch, an offensive lineman from Katy (Tex.) Seven
Lakes, have signed their letters of intent.
Covington is expected
to lessen the blow of losing Jeff Locke, arguably the top punter in
UCLA history. Covington is ranked third at his position by Scout.com and
12th by Rivals.com.
Benenoch has the size -- 6-foot-5, 321 pounds -- and could figure in the offensive line for the 2013 season.
Eldridge Massington, a receiver from Mesquite (Tex.) West High School, is already enrolled at UCLA.
