Whenever tragedy strikes, the NASCAR community tends to grow closer in response.

This family feeling within the garage is not exclusive to NASCAR tragedy, however. When the terrible shooting took place at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. in 2012, many inside NASCAR knew something had to be done to comfort those reeling from the unthinkable.

In the 2013 Daytona 500, Michael Waltrip and Swan Racing teamed up to honor the victims with a special Sandy Hook paint scheme. Waltrip, team owner Brandon Davis and NASCAR officials traveled to Newtown, Conn. to meet the family of those affected by that day's events.
