Munirah nips Sumba Sunset at wire in Boiling Springs Stakes

Munirah overtook Sumba Sunset in the closing strides to win by a head in the $100,000 Boiling Springs Stakes at Monmouth Park on Monday.

Trained by H. Graham Motion and ridden by Trevor McCarthy, the 3-year-old filly ran 1-1/8 miles over a firm turf course in 1:47-2/5 and returned $9.80, $5 and $3.20. The win in the Grade 3 race was her second victory in three career starts.

Earlier on the card, Blue Violet rallied in the stretch to win in the $75,000 Lady's Secret Stakes, beating Oasis at Midnight by a half-length.

Ridden by Jose Caraballo and trained by Larry Jones, the 4-year-old fill covered 1-1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:44-2/5 and paid $14.60, $6.40 and $14.40.
