Moustakas likely to avoid DL stint with calf injury

Moustakas likely to avoid DL stint with calf injury

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --  The Royals breathed somewhat of a collective sigh of relief as third baseman Mike Moustakas appears to have avoided a serious injury to his calf that might have put him on the disabled list.

MRI results of Moustakas' left calf showed just a low-grade strain, and it would appear he could return to the lineup in a day or two.

"It feels a lot better now after I got treated today," Moustakas told me prior to Tuesday's game against the Marlins. "I woke up and the calf was pretty sore. But it's better now."

Moustakas left Monday's game, a 6-2 Royals win, after he said the calf tightened up immediately following him scoring from first base on Justin Maxwell's triple in the fourth inning.

Moustakas was noticeably limping after the game, and there was some concern that he might have to join the growing disabled list recently occupied by Sal Perez, Lorenzo Cain and Miguel Tejada. Perez has since returned from his stint on the DL.

But Yost confirmed the news was good for Moustaksas and that Moustakas was considered day to day. The Royals have a day game Wednesday against the Marlins, and it's likely Yost will give Moose another day to recover in preparation for the five-game showdown with the Tigers beginning Thursday.
