Moulin de Mougin wins Mabee Stakes at Del Mar

Moulin de Mougin rallied to win the $250,000 John C. Mabee Stakes for older fillies and mares by a half-length at Del Mar on Sunday.

Ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith on his 49th birthday, Moulin de Mougin ran 101/8 miles on the turf in 1:47.96 and paid $18.40, $7.20 and $4.20 at 8-1 odds.

Wishing Gate returned $4.80 and $3.20, while Cozze Up Lady was another half-length back in third and paid $3.20 to show. Miss Serendipity, the 9-5 favorite, finished last among six horses.

The victory, worth $150,000, increased Moulin de Mougin's career earnings to $312,910, with four wins in 13 starts.

Smith won the $150,000 La Jolla Handicap with Enterprising on Saturday, and swept the weekend stakes races on the turf.
