Maybe it's a hunger for winning. Maybe it's the return of George Brett to the dugout. Maybe it's the best pitching staff Kansas City has seen in some time.
Whatever it is, the Royals' 3-2 victory over Detroit on Monday night was the highest-rated Royals telecast ever on FOX Sports Kansas City. The victory -- their sixth straight -- generated an 8.1 household rating in the Kansas City market, according to Nielsen Media Research.
The game was the highest-rated program in prime time in Kansas City, easily topping WDAF's 9 p.m. news (6.2) and "The Voice" (5.7). The Tigers-Royals telecast peaked at 10.6 (98,000 households) from 9-9:15 p.m.
The Royals' 2-0 win over Houston on Sunday averaged a 7.4 rating in Kansas City, fifth best all time on FOX Sports Kansas City and better than that night's Game 2 of the NBA Finals and the Tony Awards.
Royals telecasts on FOX Sports Kansas City are averaging a 5.6 rating, up 39 percent vs. last season.
