Midweek Stock Report: Twins slugger Dozier sets new career high
Every Wednesday, FOX Sports North takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.
In other words, who's on the rise, and who is quickly plummeting.
With that in mind, let's take stock of the current sports scene in Minnesota.
Brian Dozier, Twins second baseman
Dozier's late-season tear has continued, even as the Twins have cooled off. Dozier hit his 29th home run of the season on Tuesday night, a new career high. He has eight hits, five RBI, three home runs and a double over the last week, as well as a slash line of .320/.370/.720 with a 1.090 OPS.
The Vikings' defense
The Vikings' starters came out swinging against the Seattle Seahawks, sacking quarterback Russell Wilson four times in Minnesota's second preseason game. Cornerback Marcus Sherels provided the dagger late, jumping a quick Trevone Boykin pass with 1:23 remaining in the fourth quarter and trotting untouched into the end zone.
The Minnesota Lynx in Rio
Minnesota Lynx stars Maya Moore, Seimone Augustus, Lindsay Whalen, Sylvia Fowles and head coach Cherly Reeve came home with quite the medal haul after the Rio Olympics. Team USA rolled to its sixth consecutive gold medal in women's basketball on Saturday, picking up their 49th consecutive win in Olympic play, a streak that stretches all the way back to the 1992 games in Barcelona (Nneka Enemkpali, the Lynx's youngest player, was actually born a few months AFTER the streak began). Whalen led the U.S. with 17 points in the gold-medal game, while Moore scored nine of her 14 points in the second half.
Every Wild goal scored at Xcel Energy Center next season
The Minnesota Wild caused a minor stir in the State of Hockey on Monday, when they announced that Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" would replace Joe Satriani's "Crowd Chant" as the team's goal song following a poll of season ticket holders. The Wild used the Prince hit as their goal song in the playoffs last season to honor the late rocker. The change caused a minor controversy amongst Wild fans, but let's be honest here: Most people probably referred to "Crowd Chant" as "that oh-OH-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh song" until a few days ago.
Teddy Bridgewater, Vikings quarterback
Did Bridgewater have a sore shoulder? Maybe, but head coach Mike Zimmer still isn't interested in discussing the subject publically. Bridgewater started throwing again on Tuesday, but his status was the subject of discussion late last week when he was held out of the Vikings' preseason win over the Seahawks. Bridgewater expects to play in the Vikings' U.S. Bank Stadium debut on Friday.
Moritz Bohringer, Vikings receiver
The feel-good story of the draft just a few months ago, Bohringer remains a long-term project for the Vikings. The German rookie was targeted just once in a preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals, and didn't see the field on offense against the Seahawks.
Hector Santiago, Twins pitcher
Santiago hasn't picked up a win since joining the Twins at the trade deadline. He hit another snag on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals, throwing 80 pitches through just 4 2/3 innings and allowing a season-high 11 hits.
