Middle Tennessee beats Jackson State
MURFREESBURO, Tenn. (AP) -- Brent Stockstill threw four touchdowns to help Middle Tennessee to a 70-14 win over Jackson State in a season opener on Saturday.
Stockstill was 23 of 29 for 336 yards for the Blue Raiders. Jeremiah Bryson rushed for two scores and Jordan Parker and Ruben Garnett each ran for a touchdown. A blocked Jackson State field goal resulting in a touchdown return by Jamarcus Howard and a 75-yard interception return by D.J. Sanders closed out the scoring for Middle Tennessee.
Stockstill threw three touchdowns in the first half, two to Ed'Marques Batties and one to Lucas Hamilton, and the Blue Raiders were up 21-7.
With Middle Tennessee up by 21 and no time remaining before the break, Howard returned a blocked Jackson State field goal 63 yards for another score and the Blue Raiders had a 42-14 halftime advantage.
LaMontiez Ivy had 264 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers.
