Miami Hurricanes basketball releases 2014-15 ACC schedule

The University of Miami men's basketball team will open this season's Atlantic Coast Conference schedule against reigning league champion Virginia on Jan. 3, as announced Wednesday.

Miami will host three ACC teams that finished in the top 25 -- North Carolina (Feb. 28), Louisville (Feb. 3) and Virginia (Jan. 3) -- and will travel to Duke (Jan. 13) and Pittsburgh (March 4).

After the Cavaliers visit the BankUnited Center, Boston College will do the same a week later. The Hurricanes then play two games on the road against the Blue Devils and Notre Dame (Jan. 17).

In February, Miami will play five of its nine games at home. Its first contest, however, will be at Florida State (Feb. 1).

Leading up to the ACC Tournament, which will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum from March 10-14, the Hurricanes play the Panthers and Virginia Tech (March 7) on the road.

This season marks the first time the ACC is going with a 12-year schedule rotation. Teams that are not partners play five years at home and five years on the road only, as well as two years both at home and on the road. For just the third time each ACC team will play an 18-game conference schedule with the introduction of the Cardinals to the league this past July.

Nine of the 15 conference teams made postseason appearances in 2013-14, including seven in the NCAA Tournament. While the Hurricanes did not receive a playoff invitation last season, they return three players from a 17-16 team and will have no seniors in 2014-15. Three transfers -- Sheldon McClellan, Angel Rodriguez and Joe Thomas -- are eligible to play. Redshirt freshman guard Deandre Burnett is available after missing last season with an injury.

Miami swept four games in Spain this month as part of an overseas tour.

"The ACC in my mind is the best basketball conference in the country. Every night you are playing against a Top 20 or Top 10 team in the country," head coach Jim Larranaga said in a statement. "Whether you are at home or on the road, you had better be at your best, or you will be defeated."
