Meteorologist Ben Verlander?
Ben Verlander might already be thinking of a career after baseball.
Verlander, the younger brother of Tigers starter Justin, is an outfielder for the West Michigan Whitecaps, a Single-A affiliate of the Tigers.
Verlander, 22, appeared on Grand Rapids TV station WZZM 13 and helped meteorologist Aaron Ofseyer with the daily forecast.
Verlander said he's known on the team for being the most informed about the weather.
"If it's going to rain, the guys come to me, 'Are we going to play today?'" Verlander said.
Verlander stood in front of the station's green screen and gave his forecast for the day, including for the Whitecaps' game against the Great Lakes Loons.
"Once you get in that red, you're not going to play that day," Verlander said over a picture of the radar. "If the red hits the field, done."
Ofseyer tested Verlander on his pronunciation of various cities in Michigan, including Trufant, Ionia, Ravenna, Alma and Colon.
Ofseyer could not resist asking Verlander a question he's likely heard many times before.
"Do you think I can get an introduction to Kate Upton, by the way?"
"Nope," Verlander responded. "No."
The Whitecaps finish their series with the Loons on Friday and then start a three-game home series against the South Bend Silver Hawks.
