Mentor-St. Ignatius rematch turns out no match

Saturday night's Division I regional semifinal game between Mentor and St. Ignatius seemed to have all the makings for a must-see rematch between the two high school football powerhouses.

But that was not the case, as Mentor nearly shut out St. Ignatius 26-3, sending the Cardinals to the regional finals/state semifinals where they will face No. 1 St. Edward.

From Scott Patsko of Cleveland.com:

Amid the snow and wind at Byers Field in Parma, the
Cardinals (12-1)
used three Mike Muzic field goals and tough defense - along with a
couple big pass plays - to knock the No. 11 Wildcats (8-5) out of the
playoffs for the second straight year,
26-3.

"Field position was big, but we really couldn’t do
anything
offensively," said Wildcats coach Chuck Kyle. “We had the wind in the
first quarter and only got a field goal. Then we’re trying to move the
ball in this
wind."

The Cardinals will play No. 1 St. Edward next Saturday in a regional final/state semifinal. The site will be announced later today.
