Tommy Hanson

Position:
P

Height: 6-6; Weight: 220
Bat/Throw: R/R
Hometown: Redlands, Calif.
Experience: Fourth season

2011 in review: Hanson was the Braves’ best starter from the end of April until the All-Star break, going 10-2 during that stretch. He was 4-0 with a 2.62 ERA in June and allowed only two earned runs in 14 innings in his first two July starts. Hanson had shoulder problems and made only five more starts, finishing at 11-7 with a 3.60 ERA.

Career highlight: After a no decision in his first career start on June 7, 2009, Hanson won five straight games for a 5-0 start to his MLB career. He finished his rookie year 11-4 with a 2.89 ERA.

Outlook: Hanson said he’s healthy and he’s also tweaked his delivery to take pressure off his right shoulder and help him hold runners. He’ll likely open the season as the Braves’ No. 2 starter. He’s also fully recovered from a concussion he suffered in an auto accident on Feb. 20.

You should know: His 2.89 ERA in 2009 was the lowest for a Braves rookie with at least 20 starts since 1943.
