FOXSportsSouth.com invites you to meet the Braves as we begin a month-long look at our team, player-by-player. We'll revisit 2011 and project what 2012 might look like.
Randall Delgado
Position: Pitcher
Height: 6-3; Weight: 200
Bat/Throw: R/R
Hometown: Las Tablas, Panama
Experience: Rookie
2011 in review: Delgado, who just turned 22, spent most of the year in the minors, going 5-5 at Double-A Mississippi and 2-2 at Triple-A Gwinnett, but also saw action in seven games with the Braves. He made his MLB debut on June 17 and made another start in August before joining the team for good in September. He pitched well in the final month, going 1-0 with a 2.52 ERA in 25 innings.
Career highlight: Delgado shut out the Marlins, allowing five hits in five innings for his first big-league victory, a 4-0 win, on Sept. 20.
Outlook: He’s battling fellow rookie Julio Teheran, who is 21 years old, for a spot in the rotation, but struggled in his first spring start, giving up four runs in the first inning on March 4.
You should know: Baseball America and MLB.com ranked him the third best prospect in the organization, behind Teheran and Arodys Vizcaino for 2012.
