Meet the Braves: Kris Medlen
FOXSportsSouth.com invites you to meet the Braves as we continue a month-long look at our team, player-by-player. We'll revisit 2011 and project what 2012 might look like.
Kris Medlen
Position: P
Height: 5-10; Weight: 190
Bat/Throw: S/R
Hometown: Norwalk, Calif.
Experience: Fourth season
2011 in review: Medlen pitched in only two games in September after missing the rest of the season while coming back from Tommy John surgery. He gave up one hit in 2 1/3 innings.
Career highlight: He had a six-game winning streak in 2010, spanning 11 starts and 13 appearances. He went from May 5 to July 7 without losing, a streak that included holding Detroit to six hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings on June 25.
Outlook: Braves GM Frank Wren is adamant that Medlen will begin the season in the bullpen, but the Braves love his versatility and he could find himself in the rotation at some point this season. He has started 18 of his 70 career major league games, and is 9-7 with a 3.85 ERA.
You should know: The Braves went 13-1 in Medlen’s 14 starts in 2010.
