FOXSportsSouth.com invites you to meet the Braves as we continue a month-long look at our team, player-by-player. We'll revisit 2011 and project what 2012 might look like.

Jack Wilson

Position:
INF
Height: 6-0; Weight: 190
Bat/Throw: R/R
Hometown: Camarillo, Calif.
Experience: 12th season

2011 in review: Wilson began the season as the Mariners’ starting second baseman, but struggled and was acquired by the Braves on Aug. 31 to provide depth at shortstop, second base and third. He hit .243 with 11 RBIs.

Career highlight: There was no stopping Wilson in 2004, when he hit .308 with 11 homers, 49 RBIs, 201 hits and 12 triples. He also led the NL shortstops in assists and double plays, was selected to the NL All-Star team and won the Silver Slugger for shortstops.

Outlook: Wilson was acquired for insurance, and that’s what he’ll provide this season if either rookies Tyler Pastornicky or Andrelton Simmons can’t carry the load at shortstop. Wilson has missed time with a strained right calf, but it appears he might be ready for the regular season.

You should know: He became just the ninth shortstop in NL history with at least 200 hits in a season in 2004.

Tuesday: Matt Diaz
