Meet the Braves: David Ross
FOXSportsSouth.com invites you to meet the Braves as we continue a month-long look at our team, player-by-player. We'll revisit 2011 and project what 2012 might look like.
David Ross
Position: C
Height: 6-2; Weight: 205
Bat/Throw: R/R
Hometown: Tallahassee, Fla.
Experience: 11th season
2011 in review: Ross provided the Braves with one of the best backup catchers in the majors. He hit .263 with six home runs and 23 RBIs in 52 games and provided strong defense with only three errors.
Career highlight: Strange, but true. Ross hit his first major league home run off former first baseman Mark Grace, who had volunteered to pitch for the Diamondbacks in a blowout game. Ross, a rookie with the Dodgers, homered off Grace on Sept. 2, 2002.
Outlook: The likable Ross will again provide the Braves with depth behind Brian McCann. He likely will play between 40-50 games and hit around .260. He’s never hit below than last year’s .263 in three seasons with the Braves.
You should know: Ross has never stolen a base in 596 major league games, going 0-for-3 on his attempts. He’s been caught on two attempts with the Braves, one in 2010 and the other last season.
