The Big East conference released its preseason media poll Tuesday, with Marquette tabbed to finish seventh in the conference.

Louisville was the unanimous pick to win the league, followed by Syracuse, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Georgetown and MU.

South Florida was picked for eighth, followed by Connecticut, St. John’s, Rutgers, Villanova, Providence, Seton Hall and DePaul.

It has been habit under Buzz Williams for the Golden Eagles to be picked in the conference’s bottom half and to finish much higher. In only one of his four seasons has MU finished worse than its preseason rank.

Last season, MU was picked to finish sixth and ended up in second place. In 2009-10, the Golden Eagles were selected to finish in 12th place and finished tied for fifth.

In Williams’ first season as head coach, MU was ranked sixth before the 2008-09 season and finished fifth.

The only season under Williams where MU finished worse than the preseason poll indicated was 2010-11 when it was selected eighth and finished tied for ninth.
