Mavericks win bid to get Elton Brand
The Dallas Mavericks have added another body to their ever growing frontcourt.
The Mavericks have won the bidding for Elton Brand, the team announced on Friday.
Brand was amnestied by the Philadelphia 76ers this week. Teams had 48-hours to submit bids to secure the rights to the final year on Brand's contract.
Earlier this week, Dallas signed centers Chris Kaman and Brazilian star Rafael Hettsheimeir after exercising their option on Brandon Wright at the start of free agency. Dallas amnestied center Brenden Haywood on Thursday and traded backup center Ian Mahinmi to the Indiana Pacers.
Last season, Brand averaged 11.0 points and 7.2 rebounds for Philadelphia in 60 games in helping lead the 76ers to the second round of the NBA Playoffs.
Brand was drafted No. 1 overall in the 1999 NBA Draft by Chicago, earning NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 2000. Brand then joined the Clippers (2001-08) before the 76ers (2008-12).
