Mauer leaves game with mild thumb sprain
Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer left Sunday's game against Cleveland with a mild right thumb sprain and is listed as day-to-day, the team announced on Twitter.
Mauer, who was in the lineup Sunday as Minnesota's designated hitter, struck out in the seventh inning of Sunday's game. He was pinch hit for by Darin Mastroianni, who flew out to lead off the ninth inning.
Prior to leaving with an injury, Mauer was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. In Saturday's win, he hit a two-run home run, his third of the season.
Mauer has stayed relatively healthy this season after playing in only 82 games in 2011 due to numerous injuries. Including Sunday, Mauer has played in 52 of the Twins' 53 games, missing only one day after taking a foul ball of his knee in late April.
Through Sunday's game, Mauer is now batting .298 with 25 RBI.
