Matt Brown: 'I'm confident because I work my a-- off everyday'
Just days away from the biggest fight of Natt Brown's career, The Great MMA Debate teams up with him for a special edition of the podcast discussing his upcoming bout against Robbie Lawler and much, much more.
When he's not winning seven fights in a row and knocking out fighters left and right, Brown also has a podcast of his own called 'Legit Man S--t' — and yes, that title is the perfect definition for the man who might just be the biggest alpha male on the entire UFC roster.
As part of today's podcast, Brown will talk about the preparation for his upcoming fight against Lawler and the confidence that has finally started to pump through his veins after winning seven fights in a row with six of them coming by way of knockout or TKO.
The former Ultimate Fighter competitor admits that for a big part of these last seven fights he's been hesitant to soak in the fact that he's on a win streak that has him one fight away from competing for the UFC welterweight title. For his last fight against Erick Silva in Cincinnati, Brown almost didn't use his walkout song choice, "Hail to the King" by Avenged Sevenfold, because he thought he might be perceived as too cocky.
Now on the precipice of his fight against Lawler, the attitude has changed just slightly.
"I've learned over time like f--k it, I'm pretty f--king good at what I do. So f--k you if you don't like it," Brown said on the podcast. "I was even so humble looking at opponents and I think I'm looking at them a lot more objectively this way. I don't want to say cocky or arrogant, that doesn't describe it the right way. I feel good about where I am, I'm happy with who I am and I'm confident that whatever happens in a fight, I'm confident because I work my ass off everyday and when I wake up on Sunday, win or lose, I don't give a f--k because I know I put everything I had into it."
While the fight is a big topic of discussion, this podcast goes all over the map from Matt's love of hunting all the way to a breakdown of some of the worst radio rock bands in the world. According to the top five-ranked welterweight, Papa Roach might just be at the top of that list.
"You couldn't pay me to see Papa Roach," Brown said. "They're like the epitome of s--tty rock and roll."
Also on the podcast is former UFC heavyweight champion Mark 'The Hammer' Coleman and Columbus radio host Jeremy Loper as the entire team joins Brown just days away from his fight against Lawler in San Jose.
