Martin St. Louis notches 900th point in Lightning uniform
TAMPA, Fla. -- Captain Marty St. Louis has made more history with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
With an assist on winger Ryan Malone's goal in the first period of a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, St. Louis earned his 900th point in a Tampa Bay uniform. The 38-year-old added goals in the second and third periods, giving the Lightning 3-0 and 4-1 leads at Tampa Bay Times Forum.
The 15-year veteran now has 922 career points, which includes production from two seasons with the Calgary Flames before he made his Lightning debut in the 2000-2001 campaign.
"It's an honor," St. Louis said. "You come into this league, and you're just trying to find a way. As you progress through your career, obviously, you achieve some milestones. I've been fortunate to play with some great players and some coaches that believe in me. I try to help my team everyday."
So far, mission accomplished. For the season, St. Louis has 10 points. He has four goals after Tuesday, and he has earned points in five of the Lightning's six games, including at least two in each of the past three.
"Remarkable," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said.
"He still considers himself a young kid. He's a kid at heart. He's the practical jokester. But we all get older, and he has been around a lot longer than some of these other guys, and to be able to continue to excel for as long as he has played in this league ... it's remarkable, his career."
