Marquette men's basketball inks two recruits for 2017
Marquette announced it signed two recruits for its 2016-17 basketball class, however one won't be on campus for a couple of years.
Signing National Letter of Intents with the Golden Eagles on Wednesday were Sam Hauser, a 6-foot-6 forward from Stevens Point, Wis., and Brendan Bailey, a 6-foot-8 forward from American Fork, Utah.
Hauser is ranked the No. 72 recruit in the country by Scout.com, No. 80 by 247 and No. 133 by Rivals. Both Scout and 247 list Hauser, who as a junior averaged 18.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists while making 50.6 percent of his 3s, as the top small forward recruit in Wisconsin.
"Sam is a young man who was a priority for us from the very beginning of my tenure at Marquette," Marquette head coach Steve Wojciechowski said. "He is player with a tremendous feel for the game and a terrific skill set. I believe he is one of the best shooters in high school basketball. He is a great addition to our program and embodies the type of student-athlete we want to move our program forward."
Bailey, the son of former NBA player Thurl Bailey, won't arrive at Marquette until the summer of 2018 following completion of a two-year Mormon mission. He will still have four years of eligibility. Last season, he averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
Bailey is ranked as the No. 43 recruit in the nation by Scout.com. No. 48 by Rivals and No. 67 by 247.
"Brendan is a multi-positional player who has a very bright future at Marquette," Wojciechowski said. "He has very good size and offensive skill and I believe his best basketball is still ahead of him. He comes from great basketball bloodlines and understands the game at a high level for someone so young. We anticipate him having a big impact on our program as we look toward the future."
