Marquette junior forward Steve Taylor Jr. is transferring from the program, the school announced Wednesday afternoon.
If he choses to transfer to another Division I program, Taylor will have to sit out next season due to NCAA transfer rules. He will be eligible to play immediately if he lands at lower division school.
"We want to thank Steve for his contributions to the program, not only this season, but his entire career," Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski said. "We also wish him the best of luck as he explores other opportunities to continue both his academic and athletic careers."
Injuries contributed to Taylor from living up to his potential at Marquette. The former consensus top-100 recruit out of Chicago's Simeon Vocational High School averaged 3.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in 90 games over three seasons with the Golden Eagles.
Taylor underwent surgery to remove a benign growth from his right knee during the summer of 2013, causing him to miss a critical development period prior to his sophomore year.
With Taylor transferring, Marquette currently has no seniors on its roster for next season. All three members of former coach Buzz Williams' 2012 recruiting class have left the program. Guard T.J. Taylor lasted eight weeks at Marquette, while guard Jamal Ferguson transferred to North Carolina Central after his freshman season.
Wojciechowski now has three scholarships available for the 2015-16 season.
