MILWAUKEE -- After dropping a road contest to Villanova on Saturday, Marquette has fallen to No. 22 in both the AP poll and the USA Today Coaches poll.
The Golden Eagles dropped five spots in the AP poll and are down two places in the coaches poll.
Marquette won 67-48 at Seton Hall on Tuesday to take care of its first road test of the week, but the Golden Eagles were unable to complete the road sweep. 19 turnovers and sloppy play led to a 60-56 loss at Villanova, dropping Marquette out of a first place tie in the Big East.
Marquette is one of six Big East teams in the AP poll and one of five in the coaches poll. Georgetown leads the way at No. 7 in the AP poll and No. 8 in the coaches poll, followed by Louisville at No. 10 in the AP poll and No. 9 in the coaches poll. Syracuse comes in at No. 12 in both polls, Notre Dame is No. 21 in the AP poll and No. 20 in the coaches' poll, while Pittsburgh is unranked in the AP poll and No. 23 in the coaches' poll.
Now 19-7 overall and 10-4 in Big East play, Marquette is tied with Syracuse and Louisville for second place, one game behind Georgetown with four games to play.
If the Golden Eagles are going to have a chance to win at least a share of the conference title, they are going to have to buckle down this week with two critical nationally televised home games on the schedule. Syracuse makes its final visit to the BMO Harris Bradley Center as a member of the Big East on Monday, while Notre Dame is in town for Marquette's final home game of the season Saturday.
