Marlins sign ex-Braves OF Reed Johnson to minor-league deal
The Marlins have signed veteran outfielder Reed Johnson to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training, the team announced Friday.
Reed has a .282 career batting average with 63 home runs and 380 RBI in 11 seasons with four different teams.
He was a reserve for the National League East rival Atlanta Braves the past two years, playing in 117 games and hitting .256 with a homer and 15 RBI.
The Marlins have invited 26 non-roster players to attend big-league camp.
Johnson, 37, likely will compete with Brian Bogusevic, Matt Angle and non-roster invitees Joe Benson for a backup spot when position players report to Jupiter, Fla., on Feb. 20.
