The Miami Marlins called up first baseman Justin Bour prior to Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg.
Following Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Rays, the club optioned struggling second baseman Derek Dietrich to Triple-A New Orleans.
Reliever Carter Capps, who was getting a second opinion on his right elbow by Dr. James Andrews, was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Bour on the 40-man roster.
Bour, who was taken in the 25th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago Cubs out of George Mason University, was acquired in the Triple-A phase of the 2013 Rule 5 Draft.
In 55 games with the Zephyrs, he was batting .330 with 20 doubles, nine homers and 36 RBI. His on-base plus slugging percentage was .969.
The 26-year-old is the third player to get his call-up with the Marlins this season. On May 14, right-hander Anthony DeSclafani started in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, earning the win after six solid innings. Catcher J.T. Realmuto joined the club on Sunday when Jarrod Saltalamacchia went on the seven-day concussion disabled list. He has yet to appear in a game, but will likely start Thursday afternoon against the Rays.
Minor-league teammates like DeSclafani took to Twitter early Wednesday supporting Bour.
