Mallard, Lady Raiders topple No. 20 Iowa State
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Kierra Mallard scored 19 points -- all in the first half -- to help Texas Tech beat No. 20 Iowa State 61-50 Wednesday night.
It was Texas Tech's first win against a Top 25 opponent since beating then-No. 15 Oklahoma State in February 2010.
Christine Hyde added 16 points and Casey Morris had 11 for Texas Tech.
Texas Tech (18-7, 5-6 Big 12) hit 11 of its first 18 shots while Mallard hit her first nine shots, but went cold in the second half.
The Lady Raiders went on a 22-5 run to start the game.
Iowa State (17-8, 5-6) shot just 37 percent from the field and got only five points from leading scorer Kelsey Bolte.
Anna Prins led the team with 12 points.
The Cyclones pulled within 47-42 after a 19-5 run while Texas Tech went 9 minutes without a basket. The Lady Raiders responded with a run to close out the game.
