Main Sequence rallies from last to win Sword Dancer Invitational
Main Sequence beat Imagining by a head Sunday in the Grade 1, $500,000 Sword Dancer Invitational at Saratoga Race Course.
Ridden by Rajiv Maragh, Main Sequence was slow out of the gate and spotted the field several lengths before rallying for his second Grade 1 victory in two starts since coming to the United States from England.
The 5-year-old Aldebaran gelding ran 1-1/2 miles in 2:24.72 and paid $6.10, $3.50 and $2.50 as the 2-1 favorite in a field of seven. Imagining returned $3.80 and $2.80, and Twilight Eclipse paid $2.80 to show.
War Dancer, Amira's Prince, O'Prado Ole and Perfect Timber completed the order of finish.
In the $100,000 Alydar, Farhaan beat Stormin Monarcho by 3-1/4 lengths.
Ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., the 5-year-old son of 2006 Belmont Stakes winner Jazil ran 1-1/8 miles in 1:49.87 and paid $17.80, $8.60 and $4.50. Stormin Monarcho returned $6.10 and $3.90, and Alpha paid $3.10.
