Mail-it-in Friday: Well, bully for the Dolphins?
By Sid Saraf, FOXSports.com We’re back! Welcome to Volume XVIII of Mail-it-in Friday as we continue #grinding through the NFL season. We’ve got a special edition today as a majority of our emails this week deal with bullying and the Miami Dolphins mess. So, let’s not waste any time. Remember, if you want your email featured here, fire off your (brief) missives to lacesoutmail@gmail.com. No novels, please! OK, let’s get to work. THE BULLY PULPIT The last week has been an interesting one in Miami. And not only for the normal crazy things that happen in Florida on a routine basis. The Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin situation has sent you dear readers into a tizzy. Personally, I love it. It makes for entertaining responses. OK, let’s grab some popcorn and watch the fireworks explode. Under Score wrote,Sensationalism and hyperbole.. There is no evidence whats so ever with regards to the Dolphin locker room melting down in just a matter of a week.. Get your facts correct sir before you write something which you have no privy to.. This just might draw the locker room closer together. This MIGHT draw the locker room closer together. But you have no evidence of that. Ha! I just turned your words against you. I’m awesome! Jeff wrote,Since the players are both gone indefinitely is this the time for the full scale investigation into the Miami Dolphins Front Office and coaching staff? Seems like the GM,Head Coach and OC need to all be liable as it was under their watch and No One Else's....you can do damage control taking out 68,but he is a scapegoat as the higher powers knew what was going on..... Too late, Jeff. The NFL has already called for a full-scale investigation into the matter. And we all know what happens with full-scale investigations: Pretty soon, a 3,000 page report will be released that nobody will read and we all won’t care anyway, because we’ve already moved on to something else. Raymond wrote, what the hell are women doing making comments about nothing they know about? martin punked out, this WAS the NFL guys got millions to be violent, sorry ladies political correctness doesnt go past the locker room of the playing field. we pay to see gladiators not p******. Raymond, I’m going to assume you’re talking about Jen Floyd Engel and her column regarding this situation. Raymond, based on your email, I’m also going to assume that you’re just … not smart. As someone who has typed several things I now regret, let me stress this: Think before you press send.
Miguel wrote,This is too trivial. I talk to my workmates and buddies worse than this. You raise a good point. In past jobs – not this one! – I’ve been prone to talking trash and saying silly things to my co-workers. I shudder to think what would happen if one of my text messages was made available to the public. If you didn’t know me, those words would really look horrible. But it’s not trivial. In fact, this issue can really shine a light on workplace relationships and how we approach them. Who knows, we might be able to learn something and come out wiser. Mabel wrote,If today society is against the “N” word and it shouldn’t be said, why is it ok for rap singers to use the “N” word in songs. Just sayin Good question, Mabel. Here’s my answer: I don’t know. Just sayin.' Chris L. wrote,This is one sick team! I hope the rest of the NFL is not like them. Disappointed, yet proud that I’m not a Dolphin fan. I hope that heads roll and that these players get some much needed training in civility. I imagine that this goes on to some extent in several NFL locker rooms and we’re just not hearing about it. And there’s nothing wrong with being a Dolphins fan. Chris S. wrote,Since when is being a Bully being a man? This went beyond the Locker room and the Practice field, would it have been better if Martin came into the locker room with an Automatic weapon and wiped out the entire team? Sorry, but being a man is being a responsible individual and this behavior shows how many irresponsible individuals there are at many levels of the Dolphins organization! Was a fan for 43 years, and can no longer support this organization! The team needs to man up and be responsible for their actions! Two people named Chris who are displeased with the Dolphins. I wonder if there’s a trend developing here. Bruce,When do, we as a people, stop allowing bullies like Incognito to get away with this nonsense? My answer is when others “man or woman”up & stop standing up for ..instead of against the bullies. That goes to all levels of power. Doesn’t matter whether it’s the school principal, the front officeof a football team or just us lowly peasants. Lowly peasants? Bruce, come on. A little self-confidence, please. Joseph wrote,And we wonder why our kids are growing up the way they are. Why don’t these over paid, winy, spoiled little brats grow up.ThanksJoe in florida
You’re welcome, Sid in California Ramon wrote,Agree “Man-Up”. Completely blown out of proportion! Martin is a wimp! No way he can ever get back to the Team. Let someone else deal with the wimp!. Incognito also he is a bully! My beloved Dolphins can do a lot better than this.A fan since 1966 I actually agree with one point you make. I really don’t think Martin can return to the Dolphins. I don’t know how his teammates would accept him at this point. Margaret wrote (in several emails asking separate questions),Are most of the black players under 30 and they do not understand what the word N mean to a black person over 40?Should the owner of the Dolphin realize he has a team of fools and men who are less than men?Do the players on the Dolphin team realize that we see them as low life and hope they are not fathers? Will you join with me to start a petition to wish J. Martin well? Here are my answers: I can’t speak for them. I don’t think so. Good Lord! No, thank you. Donnie wrote,Whats vic email address. ?. I don't like his Nebraska comment at all Now you’ve done it, Vic. You’ve angered a Nebraska fan.
Michael wrote,I believe that the Dolphin organization gave Incognito the assignment of toughening Martin up. I think the Dolphins know that Martin is a talented kid that needs to have more of "killer instinct". This is football, probably the grittiest sport there is. There is no room for weakness on the field. The world is softening men up to be pansies. Hopefully Martin can understand what Inconito was trying to do and take heed. Hopefully they both will still have a career when all is done and said. I don’t know about most of what you said, but I do agree with your last statement. I’m not somebody who enjoys it when people lose their jobs. I’m always on the side of forgiveness and education over cutting ties. I don’t see the purpose in that. Both these men are talented football players and hopefully they can continue their careers. It just might not be in Miami. Kevin wrote,Martin needs to suck it up like man or play soccer. If you can't take the words how would you be man enough to play in the NFL. Some people are trying to turn the NFL into the GFL (G** Football League). Bring Incognito back, he's a real player. Thanks, Kevin. Why don’t you go to bed? It’s time for the adults to talk.
Michael wrote,Your writer (Sid.Sarif) that thought in any way shape or form that Incognito and Martin had “ANY” type of friendship is an imbecile. Stupid article written by an ignorant person.FYI, ANY “nice” e-mail or picture that Martin said or sent was purely to stop Incognito from hurting him further. They were fake. They were intended to ingratiate. My child who is autistic was treated terribly by kids growing up. He would do “anything” to make those bullies like him and you would “assume”…if you were ignorant…he liked them. He didn’t like them; HE WAS TERRIFIED OF THEM. Your writer should be intelligent enough to know this but evidently doesn’t. He’s like the “school officials” after a child who was bullied commits suicide that come out and says, “We never had any complaints from this child before.” You know why??? They were too f****** scared, that’s why!!!Tell your writer to learn something about “bullying” before he writes another moronic article like this. It’s people like him who enable bullies to do what they do. God???? It’s “Saraf,” thank you very much. And I don’t think God is listening. And furthermore, I wasn’t sitting here saying that they were besties, just that they had some type of relationship and that it didn’t LOOK like they were mortal enemies. I have no idea what the reality was. And you are in no way qualified to judge what Martin was feeling. You, like me, are on the outside looking in. And best wishes to your son. I hope he’s doing well. Mike wrote,Geeez..... Can't you guys see this guy is totally on steroids. Come on MAN!!! I’m deducting many points for your ESPN reference. Tsk, tsk. Just like droids in the Mos Eisley cantina, we don’t serve their kind here.
Brad wrote,The NFL is populated by an elite group of men who use EVERY angle to gain advantage upon their opponent (be it physical or mental). They don't go to a bake sale on Sundays, they get punched in the mouth. This is their CHOSEN workplace, and they are rewarded handsomely for it. Do you believe they are planning play-dates for their children at the line of scrimmage, at the bottom of a pile or in-between plays? Incognito's comments pale in comparison. If Martin loses composure on Sunday the Quarterback gets a concussion or a knee destroyed. THIS IS NOT YOUR WORKPLACE! The same rules of 'nicety' simply do not apply. Most men do not have the physical ability to play in the NFL. Some men do not have the mental attributes required. Martin is soft. The coaches (apparently) knew it. Incognito (obviously) knew it. Give Martin a job at your workplace... Sorry, we’re not hiring. Erin wrote,I have know Richie Incognito for quite some time. My brother was best friends with him and he was always very nice to me. Gave me a lot of compliments (and this was when he was a pro). I do not think he is sexist at all, because I had an incident where a guy tried to throw me off a 75 foot cliff and he stood up for me. I lost my little brother to suicide about 4 years ago, and I myself did a bully campaign. I define bullying as threatening behavior and I think his comment about "I will kill you" is taken out of context. There is a lot of racial slurs which I find to be inappropriate as I am really big on diversity and I would never speak to someone that way. However, I know his personality and I think it was meant as a joke. I have had a lot of friends of different races that will call themselves like Oreo's etc. I speak of the person I have personally seen and he's been nothing but nice to me and have never witnessed this kind of behavior in front of me. I don't know all the facts if the situation but I wouldn't speak for someone like this if I ever witnessed this kind of behavior in front of my eyes. I do not agree on harassment, bullying and racial slurs at all. From the facts given on the "I will kill you" voicemail it seems like a fine line. I’m really sorry about your brother. And … sorry you almost got thrown off a cliff. Yikes. QUITTING ON HIS TERMS John Moffitt is an NFL offensive lineman who decided it was time to give up the game at age 27. In fact, after a bye week, he decided to not to return to the Broncos and call it a career. The injuries and risk of head trauma just wasn’t worth it anymore. Robert and Coyla wrote,Good for you I did the same thing with my career with the Phoenix Police Department, I left money on the table. It wasn’t worth my health and family.God Bless you and your family In Jesus Name Amen. Beverly wrote,You are my Hero!! Money is not worth sacrificing your health and well-being!! May God continue to bless you. Lots of love for John here. Good stuff. EPIC RANDOM MUSINGS I really stepped in it when it came to a short blog post I wrote regarding Dan Snyder and the Redskins themed basketball court that he has on his property. What’s the big deal? The guy is the owner of the franchise. Wait, I think I made a comment that the team name is still offensive. Whoops … Richard wrote,I do not have access to blog on the laces out webpage, and after reading the article by Mr. Sid Saraf, I never will again.Mr. Saraf needs to shutup and stop voicing his personal biases and prejudices in his writing.I am thoroughly disgusted and offended by the article and disappointed in Fox Sports for posting it.In today's liberal world, a world of almost anything goes, Mr Saraf needs to understand the difference between relevant reporting, speculation, and opining out of ignorance. The article invades Mr. Snyder's private space first, then he continues to spout out of his personal opinions about the nickname Redksins being offensive. To Mr. Saraf personally and directly, I find you, Mr. Saraf offensive and ignorant. I am of native American decent, my grandfather on my mothers side of the family was a full blooded Cherokee Indian. He died before I got the chance to meet him. He was a Deputy Sheriff in a white man's town, and was one of the most respected officers in town. While I never had the pleasure of meeting him personally, the story's from my mother and father, lead me to believe that he was a man of honor, courage, commitment, and a man of forgiveness. He was also a very tolerant man. He was a loyal , dedicated, sympathetic man, that never felt he had to voice his personal opinions, biases, or prejudices, because he felt they were his own. He also felt there were bigger issues in the world, in the community, and in the village where he grew up, where he lived as a member of a multi-racial community, many of which were Boston Braves, Boston Redskins, and Washington Redskins fans, Dallas Cowboy fans, among others. He understood the difference between what is truly offensive in nature, meaning what is meant in context. He was a man who never took anything out of context!Unfortunately, Mr. Saraf, I cannot say the same for you. Regarding this article, and many of the media reporting baffoons have the same issue as you, your lack of understanding, your lack of willingness to forgive and forget, your lack of understanding that not everyone in the United States of America thinks that what is offensive to you, is offensive to them. GO! GO! GO!
Dude, you completely eviscerated me. EPIC. Seriously, I love it. I love it so much, that I’m giving you the Golf Clap of the Week Award!
