The Orlando Magic have requested waivers on veteran power forward Al Harrington.
Harrington, 33, will become an unrestricted free agent if no team claims him within 48 hours.
NBA.com said that Harrington is owed a guaranteed portion of his $14.7 million over the next two seasons, an amount that is about half of the contract.
Harrington arrived in Orlando a year ago as part of the four-team deal that sent Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged 5.1 points and 2.7 rebounds as he was limited to just 10 games due to a staph infection following knee surgery. Harrington needed three additional surgeries to recover from the infection.
He returned to the court in late February and had nine points in a win over Philadelphia. Harrington also had 10 points in a March win over New Orleans, but did not play after March 15 as the team looked to get court time for younger players.
"I just want thanks all the Orlando Fans that embraced me in my short stay there," Harrington commented on Instagram. "It was my pleasure playing in front of you guys. Also wanna thank Coaching staff and medical department for helping me get back on court to do what I love the most. And that's to Hoop with the Best! Now that I'm almost 110% back healthy I'm so excited for my immediate future. Let the phone start ringing. I'm ready!!!!!"
The Magic may also be looking to move veteran forward Hedo Turkoglu, NBA.com reported. Turkoglu is guaranteed half of his $12 million salary for next season. The 32-year-old Turkoglu is reportedly interested in joining a veteran team.
By waiving Harrington, and possibly trading Turkoglu, the Magic are clearing cap space that could help them lure in big-name free agents next summer.
