MINNEAPOLIS -- The WNBA officially recognized the greatest four-game stretch in the league's history.
The league on Tuesday named Lynx forward Maya Moore the Western Conference player of the week after her torrid start to the 2014 season. In the campaign's first four games, she became the first player in WNBA history to score 30 or more points in a quartet of consecutive contests.
On the year, Moore averages a league-best 29.3 points per game, ranks seventh in rebounding with 8.8 per game and has knocked down more 3-pointers (17) than any other player in the WNBA. Thanks to her efforts with key players Rebekkah Brunson, Monica Wright and Devereaux Peters out due to injury, Minnesota is 5-0 and the league's only remaining unbeaten team.
Moore ranks in the league's top 15 in seven major statistical categories.
She scored 34 points and pulled down nine boards May 16 in the Lynx's season-commencing victory at Washington. Two days later, she had 33 points, 12 rebounds and five steals in Minnesota's home opener against Connecticut. Then Friday at Tulsa, she poured in a season-high 38 points and had 13 boards to become the third player in league history to record 30-plus points and 10-plus rebounds in back-to-back games.
Back at home against New York on Saturday, Moore made 5 of 8 3s and scored 30 points in Minnesota's win. The Lynx beat Chicago 75-72 on Monday, when Moore finished with 14 points and seven boards.
Minnesota hosts San Antonio on Friday.
