Lumberjacks tap Stenavich, Rushing to fill football coaching vacancies
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- NAU football head coach Jerome Souers on Tuesday announced the hiring of offensive line coach Adam Stenavich and cornerbacks coach TJ Rushing.
The former NFL players will help elevate a Lumberjack football program that finished second in the Big Sky and made a trip to the Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs.
Stenavich comes to NAU after spending the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant on the University of Michigan staff, where he worked with the offensive line and quarterbacks. During his stint with the Wolverines he helped coach two-time Big Ten Lineman of the Year Taylor Lewan, First Team All-Big Ten guard Patrick Omameh and Rimington Trophy winner David Molk.
He was a two-time First Team All-Big Ten offensive tackle at the University of Michigan. He started 39 games during his four-year career and helped lead the Wolverines to the Big Ten Championship in 2003 and 2004. Stenavich went on to have a five-year NFL career with the Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans.
Rushing joins the NAU staff after spending 2013 as a graduate assistant with Arizona State University. He was the secondary coach with ASU, where the Sun Devils ranked first in the Pac-12 in interceptions.
He played collegiately at Stanford University, where he was a 2004 First Team All-Pac-10 selection. Rushing finished his career as one of the top three kick returners in school history with 1,409 yards. He had a five-year stint in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, where he was a cornerback. During his time in Indianapolis the Colts won the AFC Championship in 2006 and 2009, in addition to winning Super Bowl XLI.
