Losing baseball players to the Major League draft is old hat for LSU fans. Losing a football player would hurt far worse, particularly the football player they are in danger of losing.
The Los Angeles Dodgers selected quarterback and pitcher Zach Lee earlier this month with the 28th overall pick of the MLB draft, which puts the McKinney, Texas, native in line to make several million dollars if he signs.
The Tigers can hardly afford to lose Lee, who threw for 2,565 yards, 31 touchdowns and six interceptions as a senior at McKinney High School. LSU has just two underclassmen quarterbacks on their roster and neither is a lock to be an SEC-quality starter. Redshirt freshman Chris Garrett was a three-star prospect coming out of high school, and Baton Rouge native Barrett Bailey is a walk-on.
