LIU-Brooklyn defeats Rice

HOUSTON (AP) -- Jamal Olasewere scored 26 points, leading four players in double figures, to help LIU-Brooklyn beat Rice 97-70 on Wednesday night.

Olasewere, who was 8 of 12 from the field, had eight rebounds. C.J. Garner scored 16 points, and Brandon Thompson had 14, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range. Julian Boyd added 13 points. Jason Brickman had nine assists.

Rice led by a point at the 14:14 mark, but E.J. Reed scored on a layup, giving LIU Brooklyn a 14-13 lead. Rice would come within a point, but would not regain the lead. The Blackbirds (4-4) led 51-45 at halftime. The Blackbirds shot 64.8 percent from the field for the game, while Rice shot 50 percent.

Tamir Jackson scored 26 points for Rice (2-6). Julian DeBose added 18 points and had seven rebounds. Austin Ramljak had six assists.

LIU-Brooklyn has won four consecutive games. Rice entered the game after an 11-day break for final exams.
