Detroit Lions special teams coordinator John Bonamego is on the verge of becoming the head coach at Central Michigan.
Bonamego, 51, was in final negotiations with his alma mater, according to multiple reports Friday night.
He will replace Dan Enos, who made a surprisingly move a few weeks ago to leave CMU and take over as the offensive coordinator at Arkansas.
Bonamego, a former Chippewas player, graduated from the school in 1987. He has been with the Lions the last two seasons.
